Project-Based Learning

What is project-based learning?

Project Based Learning (PBL) is an important instructional approach that enables students to master academic skills and content knowledge, develop skills necessary for future success, and build the personal agency needed to tackle life’s and the world’s challenges” (The NFLRC (National Foreign Language Resource Center), https://nflrc.hawaii.edu/

The 7 essential project design elements of project-based learning are: 1) Challenging question or problem, 2) sustained inquiry, 3) authenticity, 4) students’ voice, 5) reflection, 6) critique & revision and 7) public product (Larmer, J., Mergendoller, J., & Boss, S. (2015). Setting the standard for project-based learning. Alexandria, VA: ASCD).

Why do I embrace project-based learning pedagogy?

It allows students to apply gained knowledge in a tangible way. It motivates students to take responsibility for their own learning. It is an engaging pedagogical approach.
